“$upporting University of Florida Men’s Club $occer Isn’t Everything, It’s Our Only Thing” – Alan C. Moore (1983)

January 19, 2017 marked a sad day in UFMCS and Agin’ Gator Soccer Society history as Coach Alan “A.C.” Moore passed away at the age of 91. Coach Moore started the first collegiate club soccer team in the country when he arrived in Gainesville in the early 1950s. In 1953, UFMCS was born. Coach Moore was the head coach until the 1990s when he took on an ambassador role, working closely with the current club team’s board members to push the boundaries of what UFMCS could be. He also continued to serve as a mentor to the hundreds and hundreds of former players he had coached and supported since the club’s inception. Coach Moore was so much more than a coach, he embodied every definition of a friend, mentor, and role model for everyone who was able to have shared in his presence. You will be sorely missed Coach, and we all know that you are looking down on UFMCS with a smile on your face knowing the success and lifelong bonds we were all able to form were solely because of you.

The Agin’ Gators Soccer Society (AGSS) is the alumni organization for the oldest collegiate soccer club in the United States. The University of Florida Mens Soccer Club (UFMCS) was founded in 1953 by Alan C. Moore (A.C.), then an Instructor of Physical Education at the University of Florida. A.C. Moore coached UFMCS “pro bono” from 1953 through 1990.

The Agin’ Gator Soccer Society was created in 1983 as the brainchild of our Founder, A.C. Moore. A.C. saw the need to reunite former players in an effort to help give back to the UFMCS organization that gave them so much during their college days. Coach Moore wanted to celebrate the accomplishments of the former players of UFMCS and bring the players back to Gainesville, FL each Spring for an Alumni Weekend highlighted by the AGSS vs UFMCS match .

Currently, AGSS has over 165 loyal members who return to their roots each Spring to relive former glory, interact with the current UFMCS team members, and suit up for the AGSS vs UFMCS match. Throughout the weekend, AGSS raises money for the UFMCS team to supplement team uniform costs, tournament fees and accommodations, and expenses to help the team compete regularly in the Championship Division of NIRSA (National Intramural Recreational Sports Association) Nationals as the University of Florida Men’s Club Soccer Team contends for a National Championship on a perennial basis.

AGSS Weekend, while great fun for all involved, is the main fundraising opportunity for the Agin’ Gators Soccer Society to give back to the University of Florida Men’s Club Soccer Team. We look forward to seeing everyone each Spring!
